If you have only one day in Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos and have time to do only one activity, make sure it’s a whale watching adventure with The Humpback Dive Shack!

This past March I signed up for an afternoon trip with Brian & Sabine to hopefully catch a glimpse of a Humpback Whale off the coast of Grand Turk Island. We met on the beach near the cruise centre and quickly boarded their boat where we were given wetsuits & detailed safety instructions. On the short trip to their top secret humpback hang-out location” Sabrine lead a crash-course on Humpback Whales and taught us about their migration, how they interact with one another, and how we can interact with them responsibly.

Soon after we reached “The Spot” a group of Humpbacks breached the surface and picked up speed. We followed them at a safe distance for 15-20 minutes and captured photos & video with our mouthes wide open! We were able to get in the water and snorkel around with them (at a safe distance of course) in the warm turquoise water before they picked up speed again and swam off. Wow, just Wow!

The photos and videos don’t do this experience justice…not even close!

After catching up with multiple pods we dropped anchor in a shallow area near a deserted tropical Island for lunch. After lunch a few of us jumped off the boat and went snorkelling in the shallow waters with tropical fish.

Again, my descriptions and the video above don’t even begin to scratch the surface of what this experience offers. Brian & Sabrine are both total professionals and fantastic hosts. We had some good laughs, learned a lot and shared experiences that we’ll all remember for a lifetime.

Don’t get me wrong, relaxing on the white sand beaches of Grand Turk is a great way to spend an afternoon, but an afternoon with The Humpback Dive Shack will stay with you forever!
